How you can be
QUEEN OF THE ROAD
The Ladies of Leisure are excited to announce QUEEN OF THE ROAD, a monthly posting that spotlights a photograph of a lady and her favorite classic car/vehicle to share with others on our website. The only requirement is that the classic car, truck or motorcycle be owned by the lady, her family or significant other.
So, “Strut Your Engines!”
Forward a photograph of yourself (at least 400 pixels high/wide, 72dpi) and a memorable story of your classic vehicle (no more than 300 words) to vie for our Leading Lady spotlight.
Send all information to metro@theladiesofleisure.net by the 25th of each month. Maybe you and your favorite classic will be selected to reign as QUEEN OF THE ROAD.
To get this show on the road, we will spotlight a car that is owned by one of the original Girls On The Go. Check it out!
By the way . . . isn’t there an old song . . .“King of the Road”. . . should be . . . QUEEN OF THE ROAD!

In a quote from The Metropolitan Story by Patrick R. Foster “It was the perfect car for the young and carefree . . . it was a car that made good sense for frugal motorists and yet was great fun for career girls on the go.” Believe it or not, the Metropolitan was one of the first cars marketed to women in the U.S.A. reflecting social changes that occurred in this country after the end of World War II. More women were working or had a need for a car.
It was in 1954 that Evelyn Ay, the reigning Miss America became a spokesperson for the Nash Metropolitan, she was known as the “Metropolitan Girl.” Herein lies how we came about finding our own 1954 Nash Metropolitan. We were in Atlantic City in September of 2004 and were watching the famous boardwalk parade of former Miss Americas and the then current state contestants competing for the title of Miss America. All were riding in Nash Metropolitan Convertibles! Right there and then we decided to start a search for a Metro to buy and a year later we purchased our own (appropriately named) “Miss America.” She’s restored, painted Caribbean Blue (original color) and struts an A55 Austin 1500cc engine. Through research we discovered that serial numbers for Nash Metropolitans started at #1001our “Miss America” has a serial number of #3385!
I have to say that we have a great time cruising in this car. People always stop to look at the car and many have a personal story connected to a Nash Metropolitan to share. The greatest thing is the smile it brings to those we pass on the road. What a great way to go!
